Comparison with the RIVAL and WE WIN!!!!!

I was kindly invited to spend some time at the wonderful Football Nation shop in Edinburgh as they launched the new Liverpool home strip in store.

Steven Dow and the guys in the shop put on a fine evening with lovely food from the local deli and free beer provided.

It was also nice meeting up with journalist Kenny Millar and Tom Hall from The Scottish Football blog.
The strip itself is hard to miss as it is on its own custom made stand.

Now I’m never a huge fan of the Liverpool kits. I liked the Adidas ones way back in the late eighties and early nineties, you know the ‘Crown Paints’ and ‘Candy’ ones.

After Reebok got hold of them they went down hill and then Adidas took over again and seemed to have a consistent LFC template and it was all very samey.

Now they have Warrior Sports making their kits. (An American company more known for making Hockey and Lacrosse apparel)
I have got to say I like it.

Going back to red and gold and having just the Liver bird badge gives the strip a nice retro feel to it. You can almost see Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Alan Hansen wearing it in the 80′s.

The material is a lot like the fabric Umbro now favour with their tops like the new England one. Its more like a t-shirt or tennis top kind of material. Its feels more comfortable than the scratchy stuff we have worn throughout the nineties.

The top was placed right beside the new Manchester United effort and the Liverpool one wins hands down. Nike’s design resembles a tablecloth more than a football strip and the LFC top is far more classy in comparison.

I actually said on Twitter during the week that I felt Nike were getting lazy in their strip designs. The one they have for Brazil is the same they have for Arsenal and now the Everton home kit too. A lot of people agreed with me.

That said I like the new Everton away strip.

It was also pointed out that the two kits Nike have tried to be original with, Barcelona and Man Utd, have ended up being horrible!

So well done Warrior their first time making a ‘soccer’ strip and its a success. They paid big to get the deal and now they have delivered.
